Best “Kid Friendly” Hikes in Brown County State Park

Posted on June 9, 2020February 25, 2023 by Mark Berry

Exposing your children to nature and time outside is something I believe every parent can agree on. With that being said you don’t want to bring your child to a hard strenuous hike. Below are the best kid friendly hikes in Brown County State Park.

Trail #1

Trail 1 that joins Trail 2 is an easy one mile loop where the trail head starts behind the Abe Martin Lodge. This is an easy short trail with an elevation gain of only 147ft. This trail is dog friendly (must be on a leash). The hardest part of this trail is the 60+ stairs going down and coming back up upon return.

Trail #7 Ogle Lake

Ogle Lake Trail is an easy well marked 1.2 mile loop trail with an elevation gain of 36ft. The Low elevation makes this a prime “kid friendly” trail. The trail hugs the lake giving great views and wildlife to watch and keep those kiddos occupied. There are picnic tables and great areas to fish on the left side of the lake. Giving that it can get quite crowded during peak times. Dogs are able to use this trail. (must be on a leash).

Strahl Lake Trail via Trail #6

Starting behind the Nature Center this trail to the second lake in the park is a 1.8 mile loop around Strahl Lake with an elevation of 290 ft. The start of the trail is down hill to the lake, but what must go down must come back up. The return can be a little hard if its rained in the past few days.

You can cut some distance off this trail by simply parking at Strahl Lake and just hike the lake loop. You will come upon a runoff waterfall flowing into a stream while heading up the stairs to start the loop. Dogs are able to use this trail. (must be on a leash).

Those are the best kid friendly trails at Brown County State Park.

Before you leave don’t forget to watch the sunset at either of the pull off points near the West Exits. YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT.
