Budget: Hiking Gear Lightweight Portable Backpacking Stove Review

Posted on September 23, 2018January 4, 2019 by Mark Berry

If you are anything like me, you like to save money. I also like to spend a couple extra minutes researching and looking for the best price.

While searching for a portable camping stove, I just couldn’t justify spending over $80 for a Jetboil Zip Cooking System (Black)If you dont mind the price then by all means be my guest. I’m sure down the road I’ll eventually own one – it’s a great stove. As far as right now goes, it’s not a necessity nor in my budget.

After some quick searching on Ebay and Amazon I found these off-brand portable camping stoves for under $10 Primed to my door. I figured I’d give it a shot and if I hated it then I could send it back. After testing it out I was pretty surprised.

I ran down to my local walmart and picked up little cannister of butane. Simply screwed on the stove. Turned the paper clip looking on/off knob and hit the igniter switch and PRESTO!!! We have fire!!!
While letting this sit and flame for a few minutes I am impressed with the quality. I have made a few meals with this such as ramen and instant noodles in under 5 minutes and the stove is still going strong.
Adding the Stanley Adventure Camp Cook Set 24oz Stainless Steel and you got a Budget Jetboil for under $30 including a butane cannister. I can fit this stove in the Stanley Cup with both plastic cups as a great space saver.
My only problem with this stove is short random bursts of flame where it seems the butane isnt coming out very consitiantly. I can see you will waste some butane during this, but a pretty minor issue if you are saving over $50.
