What do you get hikers or backpackers? Whether they are male or female these items will be perfect gifts for any hiker to fit any budget.
Socks and…More Socks for Hikers and Backpackers
Getting socks as a kid was always a disappointment. As an adult and hiker, a good pair of socks are a dream to have. You can never have too many pairs of socks as a hiker. Socks on trail can make or break a hike. Non-wool socks won’t keep your feet dry or warm nor help keep away blisters. While there are lots of wool hiking socks out there, go with a reputable brand such as Darn Tough, Smart Wool, or Wigwam. That hiker will be excited for a fresh new pair of hiking socks.
Toaks Long Handle Spork
One item most often missed and not often thought of is eating utensils. Myself included, there is nothing worse than hiking all the way to camp and realizing you forgot a spoon or fork. I use to carry just a regular fork but have since upgraded to a long handle spork. Look no further than the Toaks Long Handle Spork. Made from titanium, this spork is extremely durable. The long handle is 8.5 inches and a huge convenience for digging deep into those dehydrated meals to get the last bit of food and without getting food remnants all over your hands or clothes.
The Toaks Spork is extremely light at just 0.67 ounces or 19 grams.
This is a great inexpensive gift and can be paired with a variety pack of Mountain House meals. The variety packs or buckets are great options for that hiker that will have all the meals in the day covered for their hiking trip.
DSI Java Drip
Everyone knows a coffee drinker these days. No matter if they are a coffee snob or just a morning pick me up coffee drinker, having coffee while hiking can be a luxury you didn’t know you needed.
With that being said, the GSI Java Drip is a great option for that coffee drinking hiker. They can pack in their favorite coffee and not be limited to instant coffee brands. They just add their favorite coffee to the filter and pour hot water over the coffee grounds.
The Java Drip is compact and weighs just .4 ounces. Also great for that ultralight hiker counting ounces. The Java drip legs are sturdy and can connect to almost any mug.
If you would like to pair the Java Drip with a mug/cup I’d recommend a Toaks 450ml cup that can hold 15.2 ounces of liquid for that perfect brew. The Toaks brand is lightweight titanium cookware that’s durable and range in different sizes from 450ml to 1100ml.
Osprey Daylite Plus Hikers Daypack
A great gift for that weekend day hiker is a new day pack. Nothing too big that would be geared towards a multi-day backpacking trip, but for that 5-10 mile day hike that can hold enough gear. A perfect size for a day hiking bag is around 16-25 liters. I’ve had the Osprey Daylight Plus for a couple years now and it has not failed me once. This bag has been with me from small day hikes around my local trails of Indiana all the way to summiting Mt. LeConte in the Smoky Mountains. Osprey has a lifetime guarantee on their packs giving you peace of mind that if anything breaks they will fix it.
Katadyn BeFree
Can’t decide whether to get that hiker a new water filter or water bottle? How about both? With the Katadyn BeFree water bottle filter is a filter that attaches to a collapsing bottle. The Katadyn weighs just 2.3 ounces empty and can filter 2 liters of water per minute. The Katadyn has a 20 oz and 33.8 oz bottle size option.
If you need to replace the filter you can simply purchase a replacement filter without having to buy the bottle as well.
